Cockroach Infested Socket Slows NBN FTTN Speeds Dramatically
Field Job Description
The customer has been experiencing slow NBN FTTN speeds, and the connection was intermittently dropping out. The house had 4 sockets and the one in the bedroom where the router was set up was not the same socket that the lead in cable was on. This house was star wired back to a socket in the lounge room. I ran initial speed test on arrival and got 12.33 Mbps.
The customer showed me a socket in the kitchen, I went to check for a connection and popped of the cover and it was black inside and filled with cockroaches, “yuck” not a fan. As you can see from the video there was a slight blue tint at the top of the Insulation displacement slots. This would have been caused by grossness and horror, and then that grossness and horror would have caused heat due to possible “moist” material i.e shit that had short circuited between the copper strips, this probably happened pre NBN with a 50 volts dc ADSL service.
So, I discounted this socket from the star connection, rewired and removed socket at start point that they never use, then discovered that the socket that he had his router plugged into was also faulty, so I replaced that. The final speed test that you don’t see me do after everything is done, is 48.72 Mbps.
