This customer wanted us to install a new socket in his office as he was just about to move over to NBN. This customer had been on Optus cable for a long time. Some people are unaware that you need to find your old Telstra lead-in cable to able to use NBN FTTC- FTTN services. This is the old black two pair cable that connects your house into the Telstra network.
So the first thing we needed to do for this customer was locate where his cable was, because it wasn’t obvious.
Because his house was built on a concrete slab there is no way of checking under the house for the lead-in cable. This house had no Telstra or NBN box on the side of the house. All the internal sockets where wired for Optus cable. So, I thought this was going to be a difficult job just trying to find this cable. But with a walk around the outside of the house with the customer, he pointed out a duct that had some cables inside it. We found it!
So, the good news for this homeowner was that the lead-in cable was on the same wall as his office, which is where he wanted his new NBN FTTC socket installed. We then only needed to run a conduit from the duct to the location we have carefully measured out. The we drilled a small hole through the double brick wall into his office.
We then run the conduit up to the hole and installed a 1-way conduit box over the hole, all the while feeding the cable through with each new part of the run. Once all the conduit work had been completed, we installed his Rj45 socket. We needed to use a mounting block on the wall as it was rendered brick and the customer didn’t want it chased into the wall.
Now this customer will have a trouble free NBN experience, as this cable is a direct path from the NBN FTTC box inside the pit to the socket inside his office.
