This customer wanted a socket installed for an upcoming NBN FTTB connection. He wanted me to test the cable to the MDF and relocate a socket from one side of the wall of his apartment to the other side behind where his TV was located. We needed to change his wiring around so he could take full advantage of the new NBN service he is due to have on in October.

Because this place was an apartment it is usually a more difficult take getting one piece of cable from one end of somewhere to another. Luckily for us and the customer this time it was straight forward. The wall they wanted the socket on was on the other side of the wall that had an existing socket.

This was a job for surface duct. We decided to go with the surface duct option as the customer wanted the most cost-effective solution to his problem. So, people want to see nothing and if they are prepared to spend the money, we chase the wall and put a conduit in and a mounting box. Then the customer will need to hire a someone to render the wall and paint it.

Today though we just set to work on running this surface duct and getting his wiring ready for NBN FTTB. First thing we need to do was work out what cable was the cable coming from the MDF, this is the cable we will need to join out new bit of cable to. We located that quickly as it had a dial tone. Then we disconnected that from the MDF side and tested back up using the Lines Test Set #2. This gave us a clear reading and tested all within specifications.

Then we disconnected the other two internal cables and just connected the main cable to the new cable. This now provides a direct path from the MDF to the socket with nothing in-between.

Ran the duct drilled the whole, mounted and terminated then job done!
