How to Connect a Router to an NBN Box?

The process of connecting a router to an NBN box can vary depending on the type of NBN connection you have. Below are some general guidelines for different types of NBN connections:

For FTTN  or FTTB:

  1. DSL Port to Telephone Wall Socket: Connect a phone cable from the DSL port on the back of your modem/router to your telephone wall socket.
  2. Power Up: Connect the power cable to your modem/router and plug it into an electrical outlet. Turn on the modem/router.
  3. Check Lights: Wait for the DSL and Internet lights on your modem/router to become stable.

For FTTP, Fixed Wireless, HFC, and FTTC:

  1. WAN Port to NBN Connection Box: Connect an Ethernet cable from the WAN port on the back of your modem/router to the relevant port on the NBN Connection Box.
  2. Power Up: Connect the power cable to your modem/router and plug it into an electrical outlet. Turn on the modem/router.
  3. Check Lights: Wait for the Internet light on your modem/router to become stable.

Additional Steps:

  1. Connect Telephone: If you have a landline, connect the Phone 1 port on the back of your modem to your telephone handset.
  2. Connect Other Devices: Use additional Ethernet cables to connect any of the 4 LAN ports on the back of your modem/router to your PC or other wired devices, if needed.
  3. Wireless Setup: If you are using Wi-Fi, you may need to set up your wireless network through the modem/router’s web interface.

Configuration:

  • Log into Modem/Router: Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your modem/router. This is often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
  • Username and Password: Enter the default username and password, often admin/admin.
  • Internet Settings: Navigate to the Internet settings section and enter any required information such as PPPoE username and password, which you should have received from your ISP.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and the exact steps may vary depending on your modem/router model and ISP. Always refer to the specific instructions provided by your ISP or the modem/router’s manufacturer for the most accurate information.
