This can be partly to do with poor installation practices from NBN installation contractors, and partly because of the way your home or office is currently wired. Let me explain!
Outdated Cabling Methods
Most homes built pre-NBN were wired for ADSL or Pots line services. This method of communication wiring worked great for that kind of technology. But when NBN introduced VDSL services to Australia then the current way of wiring your home in either a daisy chain or star connection now affected the way the signal flowed to your modem/router. Effectively the new standard for having your home or business wired for NBN VDSL is a direct cable to the socket outlet you wish to have your modem/router plugged into. This is a big problem in most homes, the term we use for this if your home has additional cabling or sockets is called a bridge tap.
Faulty Cabling and Equipment
Many homes may have old cabling, sockets and internal connections that will not play nicely with the newer NBN technologies. We carry out visual inspections on all the components of your internal communications network to locate and find the fault and then repair or replace it to give you an optimised and working internet service.
Poor Installation Practices
You may find at times certain NBN technologies such as Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) may be installed by NBN technicians who are using very old and existing copper cabling that is left over from the days of Telstra and PMG. Some of this cabling and the joints used are in such a poor state it is really hard to believe they are allowed to use it. This has to do with the hybrid approach NBN took to cut costs rather than install a fibre optic cable into every home as per the original plan.
