How to Replace an NBN Battery?

Step 1: Identify the Need for Replacement

Look out for a red ‘Replace Battery’ light on your NBN power supply unit or listen for an alarm sound. These are indicators that the battery needs to be replaced.

Step 2: Purchase the Correct Battery

The power supply unit for an NBN connection typically requires a 12V 7.0 to 7.2 Ah 6 cell SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery. Make sure the battery is compatible with your NBN unit.

Step 3: Safety Precautions

Before you start, make sure to turn off the power supply to the NBN unit to avoid any electrical hazards. It’s advisable to wear rubber gloves while handling batteries to prevent any chemical exposure.

Step 4: Open the Battery Compartment

The battery compartment is usually located at the bottom or the side of the NBN power supply unit. Use a screwdriver if necessary to open the battery compartment cover.

Step 5: Replace the Battery

Carefully remove the old battery from the compartment and insert the new one, ensuring the terminals are correctly aligned. Secure the battery and close the compartment cover.

Step 6: Restore Power and Test

Restore the power supply to the NBN unit and check that the ‘Replace Battery’ light is off and the alarm has stopped sounding.

Step 7: Dispose of Old Battery

Take the old battery to a recycling centre or return it to the store where you purchased the new one, as these batteries should not be disposed of in regular waste.
