How to Silence an NBN Battery Alarm Permanently?

Question

My NBN box has been beeping non-stop, and it’s becoming quite disruptive. I suspect it might be related to the battery. Can you guide me on how to either replace the battery or silence the alarm permanently? I’d prefer a solution that doesn’t require me to call out a technician.

Answer

If your NBN box is constantly beeping, it’s likely indicating that the battery is low or needs replacement. Here’s how you can address the beeping:

Replace the Battery: If the NBN box detects an old or worn-down battery, it will beep once every 15 minutes. A red light will also appear next to the ‘Replace Battery’ marker on the NBN box.

The best way to stop the beeping is to replace the battery. It’s relatively cheap and easy to do so. After confirming that your battery needs replacing, purchase a new one from a store like Battery World or Jaycar. Then, turn off the NBN box, disconnect it from the main power, open the front cover, and replace the battery. The new battery will take up to 24 hours to charge fully.

Manually Turn Off the Alarm: There’s an ‘Alarm Silence’ button on your NBN box that can disable the beeping. To silence the alarm for 24 hours, hold the button for 2 seconds or until you hear a beep. If you want to turn off the alarm indefinitely, hold the button for 15 seconds. You’ll hear a beep at 2 seconds and another at 15 seconds. To re-enable the alarm, simply hold the button for the same duration as when you turned it off.
