These properties use coaxial cable from the street pit to an F-connector wall plate. In terrace homes built between the 1880s and 1940s, the wall plate F-connector is exposed to Sydney's humid coastal air and corrodes over time. A corroded F-connector degrades HFC signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), causing speed drops, intermittent dropouts, and packet loss that are often rain-correlated. Rain-Correlated Internet Dropouts — Moisture Ingress Through Original Terrace Walls

Rain-correlated internet faults are among the most common fault type we diagnose in the Inner West. Many inner west terrace homes were converted to multi-dwelling properties or had television antenna infrastructure installed during the 1970s and 1980s. During the HFC NBN rollout, some of this existing coaxial infrastructure was incorporated into the installation — including older splitters used to distribute the HFC signal to multiple rooms or outlets. Each splitter introduces 3–4 dB of signal loss, and a degraded or incorrectly specified splitter can reduce HFC SNR to levels that cause intermittent dropouts. We always advise before additional time is billed so you can decide whether to proceed. The majority of inner west residential faults — F-connector replacement, FTTC copper pair re-termination, or a splitter swap — are diagnosed and repaired within the first included hour.
Minor consumables — compression F-connectors, coaxial wall plates, cable clips, patch leads, Krone IDC punch-down blocks, and mastic sealant for lead-in entries — are included in the service call. If the fault requires additional materials such as a replacement coaxial cable run, a new lead-in cable, or conduit routing through an original terrace wall, these are quoted separately before any work proceeds. You will never be billed for materials without prior agreement.
