The registration.
Registered for fibre on your side of the network, and equipped to splice it.
Peter holds an open cabling registration with an optical fibre endorsement, through TITAB, since 2015. The endorsement is what a registered cabler needs to install and terminate optical fibre at a home or business, and he splices with his own ribbon and single fibre fusion splicers.

★★★★★NBN couldn’t get a lead cable down our conduit. But secureacom were able to get this done in less than an hour. Great professional job which saved us from NBN having to dig up 20 meters of our yard which would have been a nightmare. Thank you so much,

★★★★★The man from Secure a com was friendly and efficient. The job was to extend the lead in cord for the NBN box so that it could go to the upstairs flat. He was on time and very proffesional and making the appointment was easy. Securacom came out the next day after I phoned them so no wait time. Excellent service.

Since 1981, in order.
Twenty years inside Telecom and Telstra, then the companies building the NBN. This is where the fibre work comes from.

1981 to 2001. Telecom, then Telstra.
Peter joins Telecom in 1981 and stays twenty years, working out of the Sutherland depot as a Communications Officer: linesman on faults and installations, Customer Access Network construction, exchange installation and Commander business phone systems. He relieves as supervisor and is the depot's health and safety representative.
-
From 2014. The NBN rollout.
He contracts to the companies building and maintaining the NBN and the Telstra network, Visionstream, Service Stream and FNE Communications among them: fibre splicing and testing on NBN installs and faults, Telstra Velocity, wideband CTU and OFTU installs, early fibre engagements and fibre hauling, at heights and in confined spaces, down to the Telstra tunnels under the Sydney CBD.
-
2015 to 2018. The fibre tickets.
Certificate III in Telecommunications and an open registration with the optical fibre endorsement, then a Certificate IV and a Diploma in Work Health and Safety, and NBN's own fibre splicing units.

Now. SECURE A COM.
Peter does SECURE A COM's fibre work: splicing, testing and fibre lead-ins at homes and businesses. He also trains nbn trainee technicians, so the way he works is the way the next ones learn it.
Off the tools: a first dan black belt in taekwondo, and surf life saving with Wanda Surf Club.
On site
Safe before the work starts.
Fibre work happens in pits, ceilings, up ladders and in tunnels. Peter is qualified to run the safety side of it, not just follow it.
Most fibre faults are somewhere awkward. A pit full of water, a roof space, a riser in an old building. Getting to them safely is part of the job.
He holds a Diploma of Work Health and Safety and a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety (Construction), was the health and safety representative at his Telstra depot, and is an occupational first aider.
Entering confined spaces with gas detection, working at heights and asbestos awareness are all part of his training, so a job in a pit, a ceiling or a riser is one he's trained for.
